Pride is All Year Round: Supporting LGBT Artists

Written by: Athena Yeh & Mika Lai

Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers is a four-time grammy nominee, known for her melancholic, indie-rock and extremely depressing(this sounds like how ethan writes lowkey) music. Some of her most successful songs come from her two albums: Strangers in the Alps and Punisher, including: Scott Street, Motion Sickness, I Know the End and Kyoto. She is currently also a member of Boygenius, along with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker. Their hit songs include: Not Strong Enough and Cool About it.

Chappell Roan

Chappell Roan's rise to fame this summer has been unsurprising and overdue. Now headlining at music festivals, gaining new fans at an exponential rate, Roan is the Midwest Princess, singing about growing up queer in a conservative town, and empowering the female sexuality. She is truly the next big thing, bringing, pop, queerness and confidence to the spotlight.

Omar Apollo

The Mexican-American singer is a new artist who’s song Evergreen(you didn’t deserve me at all) recently became a viral hit through Tiktok. However he has numerous other songs that deserve the same recognition, these include: Tamagotchi, 3 Boys and Invincible ft. Daniel Caesar.

Sarah Paulson

Actress Sarah Paulson is heavily acclaimed for her performance in People v. O.J Simpson. Paulson has received an Emmy, Golden Globe, Satellite, and Critic’s Choice Award for her role as Marcia Clark, the lead prosecutor in the popular series. Moreover, she can also be seen on Ocean’s 8, American Horror Story and Ratched.

Elliot Page

Populated from his role in Juno, a rom-com, coming of age movie, Elliot Page is best known for his role in Umbrella Academy, where he plays the character Viktor Hargreeves, or Number Seven. Page has also recently published a memoir called Pageboy.

Jim Parsons

Jim Parsons, best-known from his role in the classic TV sitcom Big Bang Theory, Parsons plays Sheldon, an awkward science prodigy who struggles with social cues and social etiquette. Parsons also appears in many other well-known films. He is the voice actor for Fear in the Disney animation Inside Out, as well as the character Oh in Home, alongside Rihanna.

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean is an idiosyncratic music artist, who recently resurfaced this April in Coachella. Despite his controversial appearance that night, Ocean is a beloved and well-respected artist, with two grammys awards on his shelf. His music is introspective, transcending and lyrically gut-wrenching. Some of his most popular songs are found from his most recent albums, Blonde and Channel ORANGE. As a big fan of the artist, the songs I would personally recommend include: Swim Good, Self Control, Crack Rock and Monks.
