The movement’s popularity was not only driven by the desire for luxury but also the economic boom of the era. The extravagance and opulence associated with Art Deco resonated with the desire for a more sophisticated and grand lifestyle of the growing middle class.

In order for a design to be classified as Art deco, here are the following elements it must include: geometrical ornaments, smooth lines, simple, layered shapes, aerodynamic curves and metallic colors, e.g. gold, platinum, etc..

Even though the characters in the story are rolling in wealth, they are unable to buy their way to happiness. The movie is set in the Roaring Twenties, and the director has conveyed this era's essence by incorporating Art Deco design elements throughout the entire film.

Through a consistent application of geometric patterns, symmetrical arrangements, and opulent color palettes, including gold, black and white, the hotel is able to use the art deco style as a way to emphasize the hotel’s grandness
